Troop 180 News
Fall Comporee Oct 17 - 19
As the days grow shorter and the air more clear & crisp our thoughts turn to football, leaves, pumpkins and of course the annual fall camporee. This year it is an honor for Tipton Troops to host this annual event. We are very busy in preparation for the festivities. The theme is law enforcement. Several agencies are assisting in preparing an agenda that will be fun, knowledgeable, and hands on. As these different aspects of the camporee are confirmed they will be announced. The afternoon will be hands on in solving three different crimes that will be committed. And of course this will be part of the camporee score. Parts of several merit badges can be completed. The morning will be filled with hands on demonstrations from different police agencies. The evening will be some more demonstration with a larger scope followed by a Scouters Campfire. It is with great pleasure that I now can announce that not only will we provide the noon meal but we are planning the evening meal, provided, as a good ole’ cook out. Details to follow. With this we need some numbers so we can budget and plan accordingly. If you plan on attending just give us some Idea on who will be attending, Scouters and Scouts.

Firestone Competition - May 2
Each year Firestone Corporation provides funding for a Scouting competition that allows Scouts to earn a scholarship for summer camp or the equivalent money that can be put towards anything used in Scouting - gear, trips, etc. Click here for a flyer that explains things better - basically it tests Scouts in basic Scout skills - First Aid, knot tying, orienteering, plant and animal identification, knife and axe safety, physical fitness, cooking, etc. A great way to earn over $150 for about 5 hours of fun! WHERE ELSE CAN A SCOUT MAKE THIS KIND OF $$$!!! If interested talk to Mr. Laehle and we will practice for the competition! We will collect your registration forms and turn them all in as a Troop so get them in early!
Every year we have a number of Scouts attend this event and many of them come home winners! If a Scout spends a few hours preparing, it is a good way to earn some easy money for Scouting!! Click here for Application
MERIT BADGE UNIVERSITY - March 6th and 7th
This is a great place to earn numerous merit badges. The event will be held Friday evening March 6th and Saturday March 7th at the Carmel High School. I highly suggest you take advantage of this opportunity and get some Eagle Required badges out of the way or take a course that interests you. For Eagle Scouts, you may find something fun and interesting so stay tuned! I will send out an email once registration opens up. Registration will be on-line and each Scout will need to sign up for the courses they wish to take. Classes fill quickly so you will need to be ready to register as soon as it opens up!
If there are adults interested in teaching a class on any of the 121 merit badges, let me know and I will get you in touch with the proper people - it would be nice to see some 180 parents there helping out!
